Alice Babs is one of Swedens foremost vocalist of the twentieth century. In "Alice Babs - Swing it" she openly discusses her life and career after 70 years in the public eye. The film also provides a societal journey with its beginnings in the infectious rhythms of African American swing music which would turnher into a teen idol and "dager to society". An Alice Babs fever, which spread like wildfire through young people in Scandinavia, culminated with the release of the film "Swing it Magistern". The film became a symbol for the swing music of the young and for freedom and happiness in opposition to the rigidity of Nazism. For many cultural conservatives and Nazy symphathizers Alice babs became a symbol for immorality. Eric Westerberg, well known music industry executive and Swedish Performing Rights Society President, set the tone by describing her as a hussy who ought to receive a good spanking and be placed in juvenile detention. This led to Antio-Babs associations in Sweden and Denmark and campaigns led by leading voices of society such as bishops, priests, school principals and teachers. At the age of 15 Alice Babs had already proved her versatility within jazz and yodelling, and classical genres of music which she further developed to significant art forms. Throughout her career, she would work with a number of prominent musicians of which her collaboration with Duke Ellington was the peak. 80 min. Innspilt i 2007.
